Why is the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek so Popular in Kansas City?

Subarus are popular vehicles in Kansas; the roads of Olathe, Overland Park, Lenexa, Shawnee, and Lawrence are plied daily by Subarus from the Impreza to the BRZ, and from the Ascent to the Legacy. It’s the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek that has captured the most hearts, though, as it makes short work of roads from Lee’s Summit to Kansas City.

2019 Subaru CrosstrekWhat makes Subaru stand out as a brand? Many would say it’s the commitment to performance, rugged styling, excellent safety, and standard all-wheel-drive. The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, therefore, represents the brand at its best, as it has all of these things in spades.

The high-riding, masculine body of the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek entices you to take it out on an adventure. This year, the Subaru Crosstrek also gains a cool plug-in hybrid model that will let you drive up to 17 miles on electric power alone. Even the base model of the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek gets the fantastic EyeSight suite of driver-assist features, and there have been upgrades made to the infotainment system.

Great Performance and Handling Perfect for the Kansas Roads

The base engine of the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is a 2.0-liter DOHC engine capable of 154 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 145 pounds per foot of torque at 4,000 rpm. It comes with a six-speed manual transmission and a CVT is available if you prefer.

The Crosstrek feels very composed on the road; firmly planted on corners and with nicely weighted steering. The suspension is firm but never too harsh; it soaks up all of the bumps of the Kansas and Missouri roads.

The vehicle dynamics control system uses a set of sensors that monitor G forces, brake pressure, steering angle, and individual wheel speeds. If there is a discrepancy between the driver’s chosen path and the direction the vehicle is actually heading, minute automatic braking and torque readjustment realign the vehicle.

On the Limited model and the Crosstrek Hybrid, Hill Descent Control can be engaged to maintain a constant speed automatically when traveling down a steep hill. All Crosstrek models have traction control, but the Limited and Hybrid models also have X-MODE, a more precise all-wheel-drive setting that can be engaged when you’re on low friction surfaces. This increases traction and avoids individual wheel spin.

Now there’s the additional option of a hybrid model. The standard engine will net you 137 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 134 pounds per foot of torque at 4,400 rpm. It’s paired with an AC synchronous motor that adds 118 horsepower and 149 pounds per foot of torque.

Excellent Fuel Economy

Even without a hybrid drive, the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is at the front of the pack in fuel economy. With the Lineartronic CVT (optional on the base and Premium and standard on the Limited), expect 32 miles to the gallon on the highway and 27 miles to the gallon in the city.

The hybrid, of course, outperforms even this excellent fuel efficiency, getting 90 miles MPGe or 35 miles to the gallon combined.

A Multimedia Experience

Nowadays a car isn’t a car without a good infotainment system, and the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek has one of the best. There’s so many functions and features but the interface is snappy to navigate and easy for anyone to understand.

The STARLINK audio and communication system improves as you move up the trim levels. The base 2.0i comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen multimedia system with four speakers. It has Bluetooth built-in, a 3.5-mm audio jack, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Crosstrek Premium bumps this up to six speakers and includes SiriusXM satellite radio and support for a number of cloud-based applications like iHeartRadio.

Choose the Crosstrek Limited or the Crosstrek Hybrid and the touchscreen gets bumped up to 8 inches and includes options for navigation, a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, and Harman Kardon eight-speaker audio system.

Safety Features

There are virtually no vehicles on the road safer than the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. Awarded a full five stars from the NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS, you can be sure you and your family stay safe when you’re in the Crosstrek.

Besides the many airbags and super-strong chassis, the Crosstrek comes with a huge range of driver assistance aids, most of which are included even on the lowest trims. Radar sensors in the Blind-Spot Detection System give you a visual indicator when there’s a vehicle lurking in your blind spots. The Rear Cross-Traffic Alert will audibly warn you about hidden vehicles approaching when you’re backing up.

Speaking of backing up, it’s made easy the rear-vision camera that’s standard on all models. Choose Reverse Automatic Braking and your Crosstrek will automatically apply the brakes when you’re backing up and about to hit an object.

Higher trim levels include LED Steering Responsive Headlights that automatically turn as you round a bend, making cornering at night all the safer. The High Beam Assist can be used to automatically engage and disengage the headlights when there’s oncoming traffic.

STARLINK isn’t just an excellent infotainment system; it’s a full suite of safety and security features available on the Premium trim and above. If you’re in a crash, the Advanced Automatic Collision Notification will ensure you receive roadside assistance in record time. Remote services include Stolen Vehicle Recover, a Concierge service, and Remote Engine Start with Climate Control. All of these features can be accessed from your smartphone.
